knock on wood (three part molds)

pparently, I forgot to knock on wood as I wrote my last post.  "Awe, look how confident he tried to act... isn't that cute." So, now the top half of Amy and Tod's original lighter case is in pieces and I'm not sure if the mold itself is salvagable. <insert dumbfounded here> I was so careful while prepairing the lighter case for the NEW blue rubber mold material. I checked and double-checked that all spaces were sealed as I smoothed each section of clay barrier to pour the first piece... then the second... and third. I guess looking back on it now, the process did go suspiciously super-duper smooth.                   I the issue lied in one of the following: The "wet clay" I used to make my barriers might have reacted poorly with the rubber during the curing. Today I'm working on parts 2 and 3 of the three-part-mold of HALF of Tod's Tribal Dragon (it's definately a dragon now). Amy is happy with the design which is now primed and Tod still hasn't found this site - like so many others... But here's a sneak-peek at the molding process currently:   What you see here is the top half of the lighter case with it's bottom portion (and inside) embedded in the blue rubber mold compound. The piece was subsequently turned on it's side and is now being half embedded in clay. I'll then wall it in and pour part 2 of the 3 part mold. It's my first try at a 3 part mold on a piece I intend to keep. Oh, I've made 2 part molds of pieces before that came out undamaged... just not enough to count on one hand. "No worries Amy, you...
