Well holy crap! Since I've gotten back to work on this piece the followers on Instagram has almost doubled! Now go and make ye fishers of men! But seriously, the interest people have shown along with the complements they have posted has really geared me up to finish this piece. Plus, who would have thought that Instagram would be such a helpful resource. The Tyrannosaurus had been put aside so that I could finish a couple other projects: the Triceratops doorknocker for David's new home, some Steampunkey bugs, and a human heart pendant. While on the shelf, this dinosaur became very intimidating and it'd seriously still be sitting there today if it weren't for some friends and Instagrammars asking me about it. It just goes to show, what a profound effect just a little bit of free encouragement can do. The last time I blogged about this piece was back...

Yay Steampunkery! I've always been a bit enamored with Steampunk things whether it be fantasy, fashion or functional. Basically, the concept is a melding of design from yester-year with technology from tomorrow. I've wanted to make steampunk stuff for a long time now, but I get too caught up in creating designs with "actual function" rather than just making some art. I can't just go sticking gears and watch-parts together with clay... or... can I? My wife bought me a book called Steampunkery: polymer clay and mixed media projects. It's unquestionably very thoughtful but I couldn't help but feel that it's concepts were a bit... beneath me. I spend weeks and months on my sculptures. Many of the projects in this book can be done in one sitting, using techniques that include just sticking gears and watch parts together with clay. There's a lesson to be learned here. I'm not...

Mwaah hahahahaa! As you may recall, there were "projects and more projects..." during this Mentally Challenging March. Did you know that I was freaky, baby? I made a tumorous-eyed-thingy lighter case for a disposable lighter. Since then, I've detailed it further by dry brushing red and black pastel powder sparingly... and did I mention sparingly? I've explained in the past how I apply pastel powder to weather a robotic cyborg from the future to make it look more rugged (for the ladies), but never on a piece so pink and wrinkly. It's surprisingly similar, just different colors really, but I applied them more sparingly. Here's a link to it if you're curious; it's only a robotic cyborg from the future. That's all. First, I brushed the red pastel powder into the corners of the eyes, then other areas where the skin looked "extra tender". I followed the red with a...

In fact... it's past time. My wife and I have finished up a few Solar System bracelets from the planet beads I had made. They're being posted to Etsy now. If you like them as much as I do, I'm going to need to make some more. Learning their order, different chemical make-ups and temperatures is all well and good, but by just researching the planets colors, sizes, and other physical features, I've had a lot of fun simulating each planets characteristics in polymer clay. The colors of the planet beads are as close to the "real" colors of the planets as my research could find: The Sun. If you aren't familiar with the sun I'm sorry for you; it's the big fireball in the sky, outside during the daytime. It's where most of the light comes from. It's by far the largest body in our Solar System and consequently the largest...

I Hope you all had a super fine awesome Thanksgiving! I did, and we're still eating the leftovers! The pecan pie's all gone though... both of them...AND the burnt one...I couldn't stop. Between meals, there have been an increasing number of niggling things to deal with including (but not limited to) THE HOLIDAYS!! On the up-side, the weather is cooling off and I might be able to break out the cosy clothsy - hoodies and sweaters and such. And on the up-side, I whisked away all the afore mentioned "little niggling things" and buried my nose in a book for almost 2 weeks. What an escape! I got caught up in the Dexter novel series by Jeff Lindsay, "The book that inspired the hit TV series!". It's just barely like the TV show in all the ways that count, but different enough to not interfere with your enjoyment of both. I visualize...
