Back when my little boy started crawling I had to move my art space. If you're familiar with the processes of these little people, then you know that everything they find will be subject to a taste test NO MATTER WHAT they find. Instead of almost half of our dinning room, I squeezed my art space into a little corner. So now, I and all the toxic art supplies can be barricaded away from little hand and mouths... at least, until the NEXT round of baby proofing begins (but there's nowhere left for me to go)! All the rearranging got me wondering how other artists organize their space. One's space is an important part of the creative process; even those into digital graphics need a place for their butts and computers. I sent out e-mails to artist and crafty people I personally know, asking what elements of their space help their "process" or inspires their...

I've been feeling a bit uninspired lately. It seems like if I just take my mind off it for a while something would come to me. By "it" I'm referring to an impending project, or better yet "impending lack there of a project". While my wife was working from home yesterday, I took my son for a walk and later on to a Flea-market hoping it would give some inspiration. You can't force inspiration, but damn it, you can try! Other than almost getting one of those old-timey eggbeater-looking hand drills, I didn't buy anything at the Flea-market. I did take some pictures of things that caught my eye hoping for some inspiration (great job "getting your mind off it"). Still, I started a couple sculptures but they were so...forced, I can't bring myself to bore you with many words regarding their current state. That's not to say these projects...

When we first bought our home I had a great art space; an entire room where my projects were strewn about in nobody's way. But in preparation for the arrival of our son, my art space was downgraded to a nook. When my wife's mom came to visit, the "art nook" became a makeshift bedroom and I was downgraded to a third of our dining room - which I'm told is more of a lateral move, not a downgrade. This weekend my son has graduated from the baby stage in which he puts most things in his mouth, to the baby stage where he puts everything in his mouth: walls, table legs, paper (his favorite), the dog, shoes, dust bunnies... everything. In fact, I never realized the extent that "everything" really included until now that I'm trying to keep it all out of the baby's mouth. Suffice to say, this wouldn't be a...

I was showing a friend my Dino Skull Buckle trying to explain my feelings about it. My interest in dinosaurs started at a young age and was spurred on by museums, TV shows and movies - Jurassic Park. Back then, I had even entered a "computer creativity contest" with a dinosaur picture I made. This was the first of... enough wins to count on one hand (so far). I remember feeling so stupidly arrogant after they asked if I ever thought I'd win and I answered, "Well... yes, the picture came out exactly like I imagined it." In fact, I found the write up for that contest HERE. And that's precisely how I felt about that original sculpture for the Dinosaur belt buckle. Until today, that's was the best explanation I could give; when something I created just clicked... and... came out just as I had imagined. So, in honor of the big brass upgrade I made to...
